Influence of Bone Ash on Soil California Bearing Ratio (cbr)

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The study focussed on stabilizing potential of ash obtained from calcination of cattle bones from slaughter house in Ibadan. Cattle bones obtained were burnt in an open air. The residue was fed into furnace at about 1100 o C for four hours, allowed to cool, milled and sieved with sieve of aperture 75 micro metre to obtain bone ash (BA). The bone ash (BA) was used to stabilize four soil samples A, B, C and D selected randomly from Ibadan Metropolis. The BA was added in proportions of 0, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 20% by weight of samples to the soils. The results obtained showed that on addition of BA, California bearing ratio (CBR) value showed an increase as percentage BA increased up to 7%, after which it was characterized by a steady decrease. Therefore, bone ash of up to 7% can be used to enhance soil California bearing ratio of subgrade or road base. Engaging in the production of calcinated bone ash as a means of human sustenance to stabilized soils rather than leave the bones to litter the environment should be encouraged.

Stimulation Behaviour Study on Clay Treated with Ground Granulated Blast Slag and Groundnutshell Ash

The major decision in construction process involves the selection of suitable site with best soil conditions, as structure resides in the soil. Most problematic soils like expansive soils hardly proved to be the best engineering subgrade profile for pavement constructions. Thus, this has undeniably led to the soil improvement options accompanying the reduction in resource depletion and solid wa...

The Effect of Wetting-Drying Cycles and Plasticity Index on California Bearing Ratio of Lime Stabilized Clays

This paper aims to present an experimental and numerical study on the effect of wetting-drying cycles and plasticity index on the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of lime stabilized clayey soils. The numerical analysis was carried out based on finite element method for comparison between results of experimental and numerical studies. Three clays with different plasticity indices were mixed with v...

Effect of Lime on the California Bearing Ratio Behaviour of Fly Ash - mine Overburden Mixes

Typically thermal power plants are located near to surface coal mines that produce huge amount of fly ash as a waste byproduct. Disposal of fly ash causes significant economic and environmental problems. Now-a-days, research is going on for bulk utilization of fly ash. In order to increase its percentage utilization, an investigation was carried out to evaluate its potential for haul road const...
